2.09 - Angel’s Duty

Haruka is dead, and Vilma Fachiri knows that the possibilities of a good interaction with the humans in the shelter are over. She finally admits that her powerful husband is mentally ill, insisting in seeing his curse as a mission. After a fray of epic proportions, Vilma kills Victor Byron having the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial as landscape. Actually, she was about to be killed by Victor, but the sun finally shone after decades, disturbing her husband and allowing Vilma to recover. What a fantastic symbology!
In his agony, the vampire still believes that he was an emissary of God… to eradicate mankind. After Victor’s death, Arthur Farrell shoots Vilma, killing her.
Actually, between the Sputnik years of 126-173, Vilma was in suspended animation, being treated by Rada. When she recovers conscience, there are stars in the sky, and Arthur has built a city on the remains of the west ruin with the sole purpose of launching rockets. That is Star City.
Meanwhile, Merlin’s functions were expanded, and the computer was renamed Melchizedek.
Human civilization is finally restored, having Arthur Farrell as the leader - a leader with several enemies. In the name of his cause, he became an implacable dictator; but he is protected by Vilma Fachiri in the shadows.
Vilma also protects a baby from the battlefields of a civil war. Such a baby will be later known as Tiger Sauer.
In a space station, Vilma has a conversation with Arthur, now an elder who gives her the key to Melchizedek - Fata Morgana. Thus, Arthur Farrell appoints Vilma Fachiri to be the guardian of mankind. He says that his mission is over and he can finally die in peace. Vilma has something for him as well: the remains of Haruka’s flute that she had taken from Victor Byron. Arthur joins the piece with the one he had always carried with him, finally completing the instrument. The powerful dictator cries.
Vilma wonders if had Haruka not died, Arthur would have made a different world.
Arthur dies a single man in the year 191. He never had children. And it is clear to us that he was always a lonesome man.
Kishiro ends the volume with the dénouement of an amazing love story - the sole picture showing Arthur joining the flute and Haruka in the background is priceless. Arthur is simultaneously a hero and a dictator, but even heroes and dictators are able to love.

Following volume 8, as to this picture, Vilma becomes a subject.
I drew the sketch of her bust-up* that did the temporary appearance of Chinchi. Then, I decided that I would do to this composition by about 90 percent.
However, to me, the conation did not boil somehow. I was leaving the picture for about 3 days. I reconsidered but did not like the picture as expected. Bust-up can roughly draw the look of the character, but the volume of information in the background becomes decreased. When creating Gunnm Last Order, I have the following policy. It makes the cover illustration of the Ultra Jump magazine the composition of the bust up with a clear impact. The cover illustration of the graphic novel draws a background in detail and appeals for the view of the world of the tale.
Because I am greedy, I have imposed me a different condition to create an illustration with that and this in this way. As a result, I have been all the time troubled to think of the composition of the illustration. After all, I decided on drawing her scene immediately after the restoration. It is an epilog of the introduction.
I did want to draw the rocket that rises in the background. Therefore, I made Vilma stand for the front to make the illustration the composition that arrives in the vertical direction. I tried to add a gesture to Vilma’s arm. As to the strange pose, the composition of the vertical direction is disordered. I made it vertical. I removed Vilma and the rocket from the photograph center axis, arranged them and enacted the change of the composition.
Eight cover pictures were authentic surface composition as well. I judged that it was good because the change of the circumstances and Vilma’s environment were plain and it became a combination like the first part and the sequel. In the step that cuts down a detail in the draft, the concept this time decided go to the breast.
I think that I should picture Vilma as a more sexily fascinating heroine when finishing picturing the civilization revival volume and giving a reconsideration point. As the artist, I am indifferent to the sexiness. Also, as to the fans, too, such one may not be explicit. Thus, I pictured setting, precious the woman vampire, sufficiently not aggressive. The idea of sexy is to suggest the filling of a life force. Also, it fully agrees with the theme which was replayed from the glacial era.
Therefore, it made me expose her breasts to the limit. Then, it gained the effect which can be seen with the line of her body being transparent against the light and it pursued the sexiness. I was seized with the impulse to picture with the full color, but it thought of the balance with the pre-volume and pictured a monotonous sepia style. It colored in the gray like the previous volume.
The time passed after deadline, but a thing with heartlessly high practical use value was proved in the brush-category which is called digital watercolor, which was implemented from Painter IX. In Painter6, the watercolor brush was very easy-to-use. It was troubled without becoming a different engine and becoming one at all after Painter7.
It seems that there are many unsatisfied persons who were moved like me to this. Digital watercolor was added, being new apart from new the watercolor brush from the Painter IX.
This digital watercolor is the feeling as restored, strengthening a watercolor brush in the past by the feature to the modernism. It is possible to picture this on the ordinary layer, too, and that a dry command is stuck on, too. When actually attempting to use it, it was possible to picture lightly in the sense like watercolor in the past. In watercolor in the past, the technique to match the color of the screen making a transparent degree 0% was possible, but it is not made of digital watercolor. It can get the same effect from the variant, the water brush, instead of it.
I used this digital watercolor and colored most of the person parts. The rocket in the background arranged a color with the oil painting brush and pictured it in the way of matching up with the tint brush. Because it was late to notice the performance of digital watercolor, it became such a way of picturing, but most of the illustrations should be able to be pictured in digital watercolor if putting a way in order, too. I made a new layer on the line drawing layer and pictured highlights with the opaque chalk. It ruined the main line of the lines partially by the painting and it emphasized an effect against the light.
It synthesized a flash in jet-light with the screen in Photoshop. As for the surface of the water, I used the one to have hung a filter on the material collection. I made a sepia style in the hue and the chroma of the adjustment layer, being final and it was complete.
